Mark was born and raised in McCreay,Manitoba. After playing Major, Junior, and University hockey, Mark went on to play 8 seasons of minor professional hockey in the United States and Europe.

As a well traveled player, he had the benefit of learning from many top level coaches and players. He also has had the privilege of working for the largest "powerskating" company in the world and other various hockey schools, equipping and enabling Mark for the building of "S S Skating and Skills".
